What are you reading at the moment

Posted by: Ryan on: April 17, 2008

Hello, kids. It has been a long time I know, but I’m back and I’m bigger than ever… I don’t know why, that just sounded right.

Anyway, I have got a lot to get off my chest, but let’s start with an easy one. Since the invention of the amazing boredom saver known as the TV people have been reading less and less. Along with the TV we have computer games, which are also an ace boredom killer. I suppose the internet has probably got people reading a bit, but that’s not proper reading… you’re reading this, but if anything it will probably make you less intelligent and less cultured.

I have to admit that I’m not a big reader. I get really into a book, but then I can’t be bothered reading it so I leave it for a bit… then when I go back to reading it I have forgotten what has happened so I have to start again and it’s a vicious cycle. The last book I actually read from start to finish was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, which admittedly is a kids book, but a very good one. I am currently reading Russel Brand’s autobiography, as Sarah thinks I have a man crush on him… I do not.

So do you read, what are you reading, do you think the next generation of kids will be silly because they play Halo instead of reading Dickens… let me know.

Big Love… Ryan

I’m usually a huge reader, but attending university is terrible for encouraging me to read. There’s just…too much work.

I tend to read a lot of non-fiction. First person accounts of a particular experience, historical textbooks, biographies, etc. etc. I do like a good piece of chick lit though!

I read quite a lot as I think it’s important. I noticed a few months back my spelling was starting to get a bit awry and I’ve always been a good speller so made myself read more. I’m reading a bunch of books which collectively are know as Earth’s Children by Jean M Auel. It’s all set in the neolithic period and although she isn’t the most amazing authour – her research on that period is second to none. It helps that there’s a bit of a love story (what? I’m a girl) and LOADS of sex.

I agree with Amanda, I usually read a lot but the last four years of Uni have killed that (temporarily) because if I am not reading a stats manual, a psychology book or proof-reading essays then I feel guilty.

I think the last book I read completely was Eats, Shoots and Leaves which was quite interesting and funny for a grammar book.

I get too bored too quickly to read. On the very rare occasion that I do find a book I’m interested in and one that grabs me though, I will read it in a couple of days, then not read another book for a year.

The Day After Tomorrow by Allan Folsom is by far the best book I’ve ever read. (Nothing to do with the movie). Website looks like sex by the way!

Thank you for the kind words Paddy, the new theme is still a work in progress. Finally a theme I am happy with, completely designed by me (the php part is completely copy and pasted). There are still going to be lots of changes when find the hours.

Latest from the Megaphone blog…

I have been thinking about what happened to Mr Muscle and was Laura White wrongly dismissed from the X Factor. Lately I have also been pondering what your Halloween costume of choice is... mine is not the old toilet roll mummy. I also pondered who is the sexiest 007 and who is the sexiest bond girl. I also wanted to know which books you are reading at the moment. In other news some sunovabitch keep hot-linking to my sexy picture of Kate Moss and I am not happy about it grrrr. Also Shannyn Sossamon, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Hello Boys, Carol Vorderman and Angelina as Tomb Raider.
